On 26th December, 1914, the 1st Liverpool (Kings) battalion of 6 Brigade, 2nd Division were relieved from the trenches at Cuinchy, near la Bassée and marched to billets at Essars. They remained here for the next two days during which they sent posts to occupy the bridge over the canal between Bethune and Vieille Chapelle but the battalion diary makes no mention of any casualties such as Peter Vannoey who, according to records, was killed on 27th December, 1914. |
